Running in this year's Tokyo Marathon we were not looking forward to that 14.5 hour flight from NYC to Japan, and I am so glad we chose Japan Airlines as the whole flight experience was terrific.

We had never eaten and drank so much on any flight! No problem staying hydrated and there was constant drink cart service and attendents who walked the isle with hot and cold beverage options, along with free alcohol too if you wanted a cold Kirin brew, or five! Meal and snack options were also a pleasant surprise as we were stuffed the whole flight! Tasty food offerings for sure. Traditional Japanese fare and a mix of western foods. Fun options.

Terrific and attentive staff. Very nice and helpful. Clean and spacious bathrooms too. We flew Premium Economy both ways and it was totally worth the price. Spacious seats, plenty of legroom, and great tv entertainment with so many first run movies to view. Comfy slippers, blankets, and care packages came with our seats. The 14 hours went by so fast as we caught up on many flicks we had missed. We didn't even nap at all the whole flight to Japan. The whole experience was just too good.

With our tickets we also enjoyed access to thier lounge at the airport which offered freshly made hot meals, beer, drinks, snacks in a nice setting. All at no extra charge. International flights offer so much more than what domestic flights give you that's for sure.

Overall, it made our long flights to and from Japan a wonderful experience.

This was my time using Japan Airlines out of JFK and it was a very pleaseant and uneventful experience. Well the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I always have difficulty accessing their website. This caused me not to be able to request a window seat, ok and me waiting to the last minute to try and request it had something to do with it too, lol. Nevertheless, to my dismay the flight was full and I was in the middle seat for both flights traveling to my destination for over 20 hours, ugggggghhhh... Thankfully on the return flight home I was able to get two aisle seats.

Surprisingly, my middle seat adventure wasnt too bad. Thankfully the seats were roomy, the leg room was bigger than I expected (still having flashbacks of Hawaiian airlines tight ass seat space, but I digress). Customer service was amazing, the airline staff kept smiles on their faces. The food, drinks and snacks flowed regularly, woo hoo. I lovvved those rice crackers and always requested more than 1 and they obliged with a smile. There was plenty of entertainment to keep you busy via your personal TV screens with music, movies, news or games.

Now if you pay a bit more well A LOT more than what I did you can enjoy more luxury seating in first class with the seats that recline with leg rest as if you're in bed. Ahhhh one of these days, I will treat myself. :-) I would definitely fly with Japan Airlines again and again.

      Loved these snacks

One of the best flight experience ever! The staff is very nice, helpful, and polite. We flew from NYC to Tokyo in Premium Economy, and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the lounge at the airport as well.

The quality of their food is much better than most others as well, especially after I used mostly Continental/United in the last several years, flying with JAL made it feel like I was a royalty. In comparison, JAL flight attendants were super sweet, the drinks (both alcohol and non-alcohol) were free, and tasty food and snacks, also free.

It made our long flight to and from Japan very enjoyable!

JAL is an awesome airline but there's one major problem out of JFK...

The awful Air France lounge. Seriously. This is one of the worst lounges in the country, especially if flying in F. JAL could at least partner with Lufthansa or even move to Terminal 8, just as CX has.

Besides that, the JFK to HND route, coupled with the punctuality of JAL, makes JAL one of the best bets out of JFK.

      Plus the champagne.

I'm always in Japan for work.

So...I need to eat, drink and sleep a lot while traveling in my typical business class cabin.

I also must eat and drink a ton while in the business class lounge at the airports.

This airline was solid. Lots of room (flat-bed-status), cute, attentive and friendly Japanese female flight attendants.

Lots of food options to order. I ordered like 12 meals on the flight back (only 10 on the flight out). Sake, wine and Kirin beerzzzz were flowing.

Mind you, I always take ANA to Japan on my business trips. I may have to take this airline again next month.

      Best flight experience ever.

Even though I fly across the Atlantic 2-4 times a year, it was the first time for me flying to Asia. JAL made the 14h flight Fron NYC to Tokyo and the 7h flight from Tokyo to Bangkok (and back) an actually enjoyable experience.

I loved the plane: the 777-300 is wide-body twin-engine jet airliner, and although it's a pretty big plane, its wide body made boarding the aircraft and disembarking a faster-than-usual process.

Flight personnel are incredibly polite and provided amazing service. Food, even though not amazing, was certainly better than your average long-range flight. The bathrooms are larger than usual, and always kept clean. I also liked that they restocked disposable items such as toothbrush throughout the flight.

I particularly enjoyed the premium economy seats we got on the flight back to NYC. TONS of extra space, which for somebody like me who's 6ft1 and change, it really makes a difference. These seats feature a fixed backrest; this means that the space in front of you stays always the same even when the passenger in front reclines his/her seat.

We also got access to the Sakura Lounge at Haneda and Narita, which was great.

Can't wait to fly JAL again.

Went on business trip from JFK to PVG connect at NRT, on Japan Airlines business class. The service was excellent from the moment you enter the plane. The business class airfare was the cheapest compre to CI, BR, KE and OZ... And the food was also very good (for in-flight meal). At anytime, you can order drinks, food and snacks from an remote control. I definitely recommend JAL Business Class for people looking for comfort, relaxing and good meal.

Bad news: Cathay called me super early in the morning (5:30am!) to inform me that my flight to Tokyo has been canceled due to the engine problem.

Great news: Now I get to fly with Japan Airline, one of my favorite airlines!!Talk about blessing in disguise!! Woohooo!!!

What I love most about JAL is its meticulous and gracious service from the ticket counter all the way to the cabin. I've flown with many different airlines in my life but JAL always impresses me most with its outstanding quality customer service. It's truly refreshing to be treated so politely and attentively and there's none of those attitude and aggression much too familiar to New Yorkers.

Although I prefer Cathay's 45° cubicle seat layout which provides more privacy, the JAL business seat is quite comfortable especially in bed positions. With a down-filled duvet and pillow, I was totally relaxed and fell asleep instantly. Each seat comes equipped with a decent size multifunctional TV, but Cathay has a bigger awesome screen and big DJ headphones that are beyond compare. However, JAL always gets the priority baggage right unlike Cathay, and has the cleanest bathroom!

Now, the most important category..... FOOD!!! JAL's inflight meal rocks!!! It's the BEST!!! Just see my photos, they speak for themselves. They are not only beautifully presented, but also sensational!! Make sure you choose Japanese style meal, it's so worth it, trust me!!! The vanilla mousse was EXCELLENT, it melted in my mouth ...mmmmm!!! Jewel-approved!!! JAL offers vast selection of food choices as well as good wines & champagnes and on-demand second meal service is welcome too. I completely pigged out more than I should, and kept going to the snack bar for more new snacks. Check out the chocolate truffles if they are available..... sooo good!!!!

      Another FTR!! Yay!!! Hehehe!!!

An airline deserves 5 stars when you get amazing service in business or economy.

Business: I didn't get one of the newer planes. Despite the seats not being lie-flat, they were still pretty darn comfortable. It was my first time on a Dreamliner. What really got me was the food - go for the Asian option if you have two. After the first meal (which is more intricate than any American airline meal will ever be), you have a menu you can order from whenever you feel like it. Everything was delicious. The flights within Asia were also pretty nice. Sadly, no toiletry kits - they offer items from a basket instead.

Economy: I was on a Boeing 767-300 "New Sky" in one of the first economy rows. They weren't joking about the extra seat pitch. Also, you'll find that JAL Dreamliners are pretty warm inside - don't need to swaddle yourself in a blanket. Attendants were patrolling the aisles throughout the flight with refreshments. I was trying to change my SIM card while the flight was boarding. A flight attendant was attentive enough to notice and offer me her flight pin back to pop the SIM open. I loved the food - Air Mos! And they really do board about 30 minutes before takeoff from NRT.

Lounge: If you have time, check out the lounge at NRT. Beer machine, more snacks (I think there are pastries from Maison Kayser), massage chair, and free massages (but doesn't seem to coordinate with my flight times :().
